A Guide to Fort Walton Beach

A Guide to Fort Walton Beach

Although named Fort Walton Beach, there is so much more than the beach in this eclectic Floridian city. We compiled a list of activities that you can do at Fort Walton Beach that include a little bit of everything. So whether you’re in the water, on the beach, or a city-goer, here are the best things to do at Fort Walton Beach.

Watersports

The first thing in this Fort Walton Beach guide explores watersports. At Fort Walton beach, there are a few you can choose from. Watersports are activities that you do on the water like parasailing, jet skiing, and boating. Parasailing in Fort Walton Beach is a fun activity for thrill seekers who aren’t afraid of heights. Basically, what happens is you get on a boat and the captains strap you into a parachute, then they take off on the boat while you’re in the water. After that, you will be soaring 400 feet in the air with great views of the city, beach, and ocean. Keep an eye out for anything you could see while up in the air. Another watersport that is great to try out is jet skis. Jet ski rentals in Fort Walton Beach are a fun way to spend the day zooming through the sea. These are great if you are looking for an exciting ocean adventure. One thing to keep in mind about jet ski rentals is if you are born after January 1st, 1988, then you will have to take a Boaters Safety Education Course to get a certificate to be able to drive the jet skis. Whether you are parasailing in the sky or jet skiing in the sea, Fort Walton Beach has it all.

Beach Sand Sculptures

Now for some beach time. We’re sure you’ve built, or tried to build, a sandcastle before. Did you know at Fort Walton Beach that you can take sand castle lessons? Beach Sand Sculptures teaches you the art of sandcastle building and how to make the perfect sandcastle; and not a tiny one either. The sand castles we are talking about are the ones you see in movies. They are huge. During the lessons you will be learning about the techniques to help you create your very own sand castle and take it above and beyond. This activity is fun to do with a big group of people. You can have up to 10 people per time slot with Beach Sand Sculptures. This activity will bring out your inner artist and allow you to perfect your sandcastle making skills. Each sand castle will stand about three and a half feet tall so make sure to capture a picture of the beautiful sand castle you and your group made.

Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park

The next place to visit is the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park, which has some marine life. At the Gulfarium, there are so many activities to choose from. People can choose from:

  • Discover Dolphins
  • Discover Gators
  • Reptile Safari
  • Discover Stingrays
  • Discover Turtles
  • Discover Penguins
  • Discover Harbor Seals
  • Discover Stingray Bay
  • Discover Sea Lions
  • VIP Trainer
  • Splash ‘N Play

Our personal favorite is the Dolphin Oasis. The Dolphin Oasis gives guests a learning experience of the dolphins that are native to the Gulf of Mexico. The newly built aquatic facility is sure to teach you a few things about dolphins. Head on down to the Gulfarium and experience all the wonder of Floridian marine life.

The Ratchet Hatchet

Hidden away in Fort Walton Beach is a place called The Ratchet Hatchet. The Ratchet Hatchet is an axe throwing center. Get some rage out and throw some axes! This place will help you bring out your inner warrior. Axe throwing has been around for a long time, but it recently became popular around the year 2016. The object of the game is to throw the axe and try to hit the target. The target is the bullseye. This is a great spot to go with a big group of friends. For anyone who is 21 or older, The Ratchet Hatchet has a bar, so feel free to grab some drinks, but make sure you are careful, drinking and throwing axes is a dangerous game. Either make a booking online or walk in on the same day. Aim for the target and head to The Ratchet Hatchet for a thrilling time.

Downtown Fort Walton Beach

The final stop in our guide is Downtown Fort Walton Beach. Downtown Fort Walton Beach shows the heart and soul of the city. The best part about the downtown area is that you get a mixture of city life and the beach experience. The area also shows the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico. Downtown gives you the opportunity to be able to shop at many local boutiques. Downtown also gives you the chance to stroll around the area. It’s a great place to sit on a bench and read some books.
