Technically, we can call visiting Crab Island a visit to the great outdoors, just different from what we usually think of when we think of the outdoors, it’s a sandbar, not the woods. Crab Island is a great place to go outdoors with an abundance of fun, relaxing activities, as well as quite a few lunch spots.

Take a Hike

Something not many people may know about is there are a couple of trails out here in Fort Walton Beach. One great option for a hike to take that is only about a 10 to 15-minute drive is the Eglin East Florida Trail. This trail is about 41.8 miles long, which sounds intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be! The fun part about hiking is you can go however far you want to go. There is no requirement about having to do the full distance, no one is keeping score. There are 4 areas to this trail that you could potentially see and they are the  Alaqua, Catface, and the Titi sections. Some fun facts about this trail is that it was established with the Ocala National Forest in 1908. It was also one of the largest military reservations to exist in Florida. People enjoy going to this trail to hike as it is a different side to Florida. This is a great outdoor place and activity to try out since it is something different from the beach area. When you are hiking the trail, make sure to carry anything needed for the journey. We also recommend that you bring a journal with you to write down all the findings you see while hiking the Eglin East Florida Trail.

Fort Walton Beach Landing Park

Going to a park is always a great way to enjoy the outdoors One of our favorite parksFort Walton Beach, that you should check out is the Fort Walton Beach Landing Park. This park is in the heart of the downtown area, making it easy for tourists to access. The reason it is called The Landing is due to all the local events that are hosted there. On Fridays, you can frequently find yourself listening to some live music. There are also movie nights at the park for the film buff in your life. Then on Saturdays, you can check out the farmers market for some local produce and handmade products; there is an abundance of goodies to be found at the farmer’s market. The park boasts beautiful scenery that you have to see to believe, so bring your friends and family.  Why not enjoy a picnic at the park together?
